Why Is It So Hot?? – It's Kalima!

From time to time in Tenerife it's very hot and foggy. Do you know why? It's a special natural phenomenon of the Canary islands that is called Kalima. A hot wind from Sahara comes here bringing the sand from the desert and covering with it all islands, that makes it look like fog. On these days you can't see far and it feels very hot and dry. No fresh wind comes from the ocean. It usually happens in the summer and lasts 3-5 days, though sometimes it can be longer. Normally there is no rain during the kalima, but if there is the water brings the sand down and covers everything with it. After the rain cars look like they've all been to a safari in the desert.

Peculiar, right?
